I like to listen to audio at 2-3 times regular speed. I used to avoid video because I didn’t know you could speed it up. This blog post will show you how to watch Youtube or VLC videos at a faster pace.
For YouTube you need a modern browser like Chrome. Then go to www.youtube.com/html5. Agree to the conditions to “Join the HTML5 trial.” This means you aren’t using Flash anymore, but HTML5 to play videos. This enables a speed setting on the video player control bar. Just click it to select your listening speed. Sweet hey.
With VLC, the best free media player available, you need to follow these steps:
- Right click anywhere on the bottom of the VLC window near the Play, Stop, Forward, Back buttons. Click “Tools”, then “Customize Interface.”
- Drag the button “Playback Speed” to the right to line one or two as shown below. It will appear as “1.00x”. While you are at it, you might want to drag the record button (red circle) or the snapshot button (camera):
- Now when you play a video, just click on the 1.00x button and you will be able to slow down or speed up your video (click on the arrows, not the slider).
